This year's marathon in New York was marked by a new one which has greatly shaken the landerneau marathoners. Haile Gebrselassie, the current record holder over the distance, dropped to 25th km due to a knee problem, and announced in the wake he was ending his career. Immediately everyone will be affected, among other things, and regretted that ended his career on an abandonment.
few days but he moderated his remarks and said he was thinking. And finally, a week after the terrible news of an abandoned quarry, he reassured us and said he would still continue to run for two three years, for our greatest happiness. One can easily imagine he wants to mark the coming Olympic Games in London in 2010 (and this would be the perfect time to really end his career as a marathoner).
Rest assured, the Ethiopian is assured. Gebre Egziabher Gebremariam the young (26 years) ran a marathon for the first time, and he won in 2h08m13. It promises great racing!
And all this in French? The first French, Christelle Daunay, came sixth woman 2h29m29, and the first French, Stéphane Vautier was the 55th man to finish in 2h31m56.
A small note for people to finish? Well yes, these people are like you and me, they may also want to run to let off steam. This year the marathon in New there was Yannick Noah (ended 4h01m38) and Amelie Mauresmo (3h40m20, very well for a first marathon!). Congratulations to them and to all those riders, famous or anonymous, who will run the marathon until the end. Because even for the latter, it's still a little over 42 km it takes to swallow the strength of his will.
